Punjab Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema stated that the government is keen on improving the primary and secondary education in the state and is taking all necessary steps to provide education to every child in the rural area during the inauguration of a school at Chhat village near Zirakpur today. Dr Cheema further said schools should provide a platform to children to exhibit their talent. He also advised students to make the use of the opportunities provided by schools for excellence in academics.
Cheema said the vocational education was started to make students self-reliant and to equip them with the skill demanded by the contemporary industry. “Presently, the vocational education is being imparted in 400 schools and the proposal for providing it in more schools has been sent to the National Skill Development Corporation(NSDC). This has been done to ensure adequate employment opportunities for students,” Cheema added.
Describing education as the most important pillar of a robust society, the minister praised the state government for providing wings to dreams of the poor students who had no access to modern teaching methods. The minister added that three more meritorious schools would be opened in the state in addition to seven meritorious schools that are already there in the state. He said that only those students studying in government schools were eligible to get admission in the meritorious schools and the students who attained 80 per cent or more marks in Class X would be given free education. Dr Cheema also lashed out at Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of befooling people of Punjab. Cheema said the Delhi Chief Minister would be remembered for stooping too low by making remarks against Modi to save his government and diverting attention of people from the core issues.
