Kathua : A skill development training centre in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district is providing employment and empowering opportunities for rural womenfolk, making them self reliant. The government has started special skill development programmes for women under the aegis of the handicraft department in various villages. Women are trained in trades like embroidery stitching, calcio printing , shawl weaving, knitting and bamboo craft.
The aim is to establish a rural-urban connect through craft and to provide a source of earning a livelihood. Women are given a stipend of Rs 500 per month to take part in the elementary training course and Rs 700 per month for taking part in the advanced training course. Beside this, they are also educated on the provisions like start-up loans for self employed and budding entrepreneurs.
