Kanker : In an innovative effort to bring positive change in lives of prisoners languishing in the Kanker District Jail, the district administration is providing skill development training to prisoners as per their talent and interest.
The objectives of training being provided to prisoners under ‘Mukhyamantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana’ is to keep them engaged in skill development activities and also make them self reliant so that they do not face any problem in finding livelihood after they are released from jail.
Based on applications received from different village panchayats under the scheme, the District Skill Development Authority is making extensive efforts for linking youths with employment and self-employment opportunities during the last three years, said officials. Similarly, the scheme is also bearing fruitful results for youths affected by various projects and problems, added the officials.
According to information received, following the directives of Chief Minister Raman Singh, as many as 30 prisoners of district jail Kanker have been subjected into the training of mason and 30 prisoners for gardener.
Moreover, six surrendered woman Maoists and around 14 women affected by Naxalism were imparted stitching training and after completion of three month-long training, the government is going to provide stitching machine to them. Likewise, 15 surrendered insurgents have been given driving and mechanic training as per the interest shown by them.
