Coimbatore: Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) for women across the state have done their part to keep up with the industrial trend and have introduced new courses for the coming academic year which would start in August.

At the Government Industrial Training Institute for women, Coimbatore, a new course on ‘Mechanic – Medical Electronics’ would be offered from the coming academic year, said officials, taking the total number of courses to 10. The course would have 20 seats, they said.

Meanwhile, the government ITI for women in Salem would offer a course on ‘Mechanic – Refrigeration and Air-conditioning’ from the coming academic year and the government ITI for women in Cuddalore would offer a course on ‘Technician – Power Electronics System’, said officials.

The courses are added in ITIs in each region according to the need, officials said. The department of employment and training would decide on the courses to be added based on deliberations, they said.

The curriculum for ITIs across the country is prepared by the Central Staff Training and Research Institute, Kolkata, and is accordingly updated periodically. The courses offered by ITIs come under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), said the official.
