Coimbatore : The Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) is organizing a job mela here on November 27 as part of its mandate to impart skill training and provide employment to fresh candidates in member mills.
ITF, one of the largest textile industry associations, has signed a MoU with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to skill 50,000 fresh candidates under “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and provide employment in its member mills located all over Tamil Nadu. PMKVY Scheme is funded by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and scheme guidelines are based on NSDC, an ITF release said.
ITF, under PMKVY pilot phase, has skilled about 16,000 freshers and employed them in its member mills in 2015 and got recognition from ASSOCHAM for “Best NGO Skill Training” in that year.
Stating that Tamil Nadu textile mills are facing severe skilled manpower shortage for the past 10 years, and consequently suffering with low plant utilization, efficiency, performance, the release said that due to this, the mills are gradually losing their competitiveness to Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
“Now, with this short term 43-day skill training, mills could overcome the shortage significantly, as freshers of 17 years and above age, with the minimum qualification of fifth standard can walk in to “Kaushal Mela” to be organized at SITRA campus, near airport,” the release added.
About 100 textile companies of ITF are participating in the mega event to recruit candidates and planned to have certificate distribution and appointment order issue ceremony for the first batch successful candidates in the evening.
