Chennai: A new vocational training centre by Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME) was inaugurated by State Minister for Tamil Official Language, Tamil Culture and Archaeology, K Pandiarajan at Thoraipakkam on Friday.
Speaking at the event, the Minister said, “Education and training are the two corner stone’s to make a successful career.” He said that the State government will support the club in any of its activities which reach out to the poorer sections of the society.
He said, “This year, the Tamilnadu Skill Development Corporation Limited is spending nearly Rs 800 crore into various schemes in 20 sectors and is one of the first in the country to do this.”
Kohler India, Grundfos India, Indian Terrain, Freshworks and Mahindra Pride are partnering for running the vocational training centre. Anyone who has completed class 8 can join the cente to undergo training in tailoring and plumbing.
Grundfos India is sponsoring a Pump and Plumbing programme in association with RCME. It is a 90-day certified programme, where the students will be taught about various pump and plumbing related topics including pump installations and repair, maintenance and service of plumbing systems. The curriculum will be in line with the NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation).
The modules of this course include both theoretical and practical sessions at the training centre and at Grundfos India’s production facility. The centre plans to focus on training women in this field. Each class will have 20 students and the centre plans to train 100-150 students each year, with supplementary courses on soft skill development.
Mahindra Pride will be providing Value Education to ensure that the candidates not only are skilful but will also possess communication and work ethics.
RCME president B S Purshotham said, “A sum of Rs 35 lakh has been spent on the Infrastructure set up from RCME Trust. The total investment in this project will be around Rs 1 cr which will help the underprivileged youth. “This centre is founded on the principles of placing scarce resources within reach of the needy. After analyzing the demand data we found that there was a great need for trained personnel in the areas – Plumbing, Tailoring, and Software Development”.
