Tamil Nadu Government to add 12 skill-based courses as a part of revised Class XII syllabus

Trichy : Skill-based courses will be part of the revised Class XII syllabus to be introduced by the Tamil Nadu government next year, said school education minister K A Sengottaiyan. The idea is to make the students employable when complete their schooling.

Speaking to reporters here, the minister said 12 skill- based courses would be part of the Class XII syllabus. These courses are designed keeping in mind the human resources requirements of the local industries around the school.

While a large chunk of engineering graduates remained unemployed over lack of employable skills, job-oriented training would be given right from the schools. Around 25,000 government school students would be imparted free coaching for charted accountancy. It would start on July 12, he said.

He said 1,478 students, who attended the free NEET coaching, cleared the test this year.

The revised syllabus was introduced this year for Classes I, VI, IX and XI. The rest of the classes will get the revised syllabus next year. “The new syllabus will be one of its kind in the country and teachers will be able to teach with their mobile phones,” he said.

The minister said the school education department would focus on inculcating reading habit among students. A special programme would be conducted within a month for this purpose, he added.
