Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation to organize skill training program on biodegradable cloth bag making

With the district administration imposing a ban on plastics from July 1, the National and Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation have drawn up training programmes on non-woven and biodegradable cloth bag making.

Addressing an awareness programme on ‘Kaushal Panjee’, a skill register app developed by the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for the benefit of educated unemployed youth, here on Thursday, Collector S. Natarajan said special training programmes on making cloth bags had been arranged.

The Collector exhorted the youth, especially women, to avail the training in making the bags, which served as alternatives to single use plastic carry bags, and benefit from the programme.

“We propose to offer the training to a large number of women in making the bags along with other skill development training free of cost,” he said.

Focus on indicators

After Ramanathapuram was identified as one of the 117 aspirational districts, the local administration has focussed on select indicators such as education, public health, financial inclusion, development of infrastructure facilities, skill development and promotion of small and micro enterprises for achieving overall development in the district, the Collector said.

Educated unemployed youth, who wished to start self-enterprises, could avail the training in trades of their choices by registering in ‘Kaushal Panjee’ App.

Once they registered, the registered training providers would get in touch with them and arrange for the training. At present, 2,000 to 3,000 people got trained in various skills in a year by various agencies, she said. She added that the Collector wanted to enhance the beneficiaries through the introduction of Kaushal Panjee.
