Agartala : While Tripura government made amendment the guidelines to ensure easier bank loan for skilled entrepreneurs of the state under Swabalamban (self-reliance) scheme, renowned academician and vice chancellor of Tripura University Prof V L Dharurkar suggested the government to reshaping the higher education curriculum with skill India mission for better scope of employment.
The state government issued direction to all nationalised and state owned banks to ensure disbursement of Swabalamban loan up to rupees one crore to the applicant within 45 days of the filing applications and trained entrepreneurs have to be given preference.
The state government has increased the age limit of the applicants from 40 to 50 years and linked up Swabalamban scheme with Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Yojona schemes, Start Up India and Stand Up India schemes to ensure more benefit to the unemployed people of the state.
Reiterating the deliberation of just concluded three days Chintan Shibir (brainstorming session) here, vice-chancellor Prof Dharurkar advised the state government besides, conventional courses and subjects, the government must begin skill development courses in all higher education institutes. Tripura University has already proposed to start 11 such course considering local prospects and need.
The proposed courses include two years masters degree in archaeology, tourism development and hospitality management, liberal art, policy studies, social work, women studies, hospital management, Yoga studies, performing art and dramatics, pharmacology and neon-technology and bio-technology and those type of courses need to be in the graduation level for better scope of employability, Dharurkar opined.
He observed that Tripura has shortage of formalized skill employing industries which does not create a backward linkage towards effective attainment of skill education among the students and existing skill development training programmes face the challenge of high drop-out rates. Immediate mapping of sector-wise skill requirement became essential for Tripura to incentivise the state government agenda.
He further suggested of making vocational training an aspirational choice for the students, involving industry for improved quality and relevance-scaling up the apprenticeship programme and putting in place an effective, internationally recognized assessment and certification system besides, building necessary infrastructure.
Prof Dharurkar maintained that Tripura government has taken up the initiative of setting up of AIIMS-like institution would not only create a medical hub but also generate huge employment. To cater the need creation of a Centre of Excellence specializing in research and effective use of the abundant medicinal plants becomes essential. Also, skill development of the health personnel could be insured in the treatment of medical conditions thriving in the area. The transport expenses incurred by the state in travelling of people for medical treatments could now be utilized within the state for enhancing skill development of the youth in healthcare.
