UP Government to de-recognize 500 private ITIs across state

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh will derecognize 500 private (ITIs) in the state, with immediate effect, following large scale irregularities.

UP skill development minister has ordered a crackdown at a time when technical education institutes are facing a crisis, with nearly one lakh seats lying vacant.

Chauhan told TOI that he had inspected a number of private ITIs in the state and found them laboratories and other basic . He has recommended nonrecognition of these institutes to the Union ministry of skill development, which is the authority for providing permission and for cancellation of recognition. There are about 2,700 private ITIs is in the state.

“It was shocking to find some of them had only sign boards, with no infrastructure, no student, no teachers. They are looting government money in the name of scholarship and fee reimbursement of students from weaker sections,” said Chauhan.

In some cases, the minister found one building had more than one running and there were no students.

The minister claimed that at a time when industry was demanding ITI passouts, there was mushrooming of ITIs in remote areas of the state and some of them were duping the government as well as students.

He said he has ordered his department to carry out inspections in every ITI, mainly in the private sector, and ensure quality education and teaching and close down if there proper infrastructure was not in place.

The minister said he has procured NCVT certificates for 70,000 students of the 300 government it is, which would provide more weightage to their certificates at the national level.

In order to attract more students to ITIs, the government would give class VII pass students ,a certificate of class X, once they complete their two-year training and qualify in Hindi in the UP Board examination.

Similarly, the students who join ITIs after class X will be given a certificate of class 12 once they complete their two-year course. This will be an incentive to students to join this training course, said the minister. In order to further generate skilled youth, his department has tied up with the private sector to train them as paramedics, who would be employed in hospitals, both private and government.
