The Uttar Pradesh government has announced its plan to initiate a training program for 5G technology as part of the Skill Development Mission to set up a new IT Talent Pool in the state. The program aims to equip the youth population with the necessary skills in emerging and future employable technologies.
According to the state government, the move is aimed to catch up with all the new IT-related opportunities in the state that are growing with top global IT majors planning to set up their new facilities in the state. The new initiative, part of the Skill Development Mission, will equip young individuals with the necessary IT skills.
The state government in a statement maintained that it expects a significant rise in demand for individuals proficient in 5G technology within the telecommunications sector in the coming years. The state government looks to cash in on the new IT expansion in the telecom ecosystem, including hardware, software, and services.
This transformation will be vital for the successful implementation of other emerging technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), machine-to-machine (M2M) communication, and edge computing, the UP government said in a statement.
“The Yogi government is working towards fulfilling this need of the future by enabling the youth in 5G.” the statement said. As per the proposed plan over 1,000 candidates from the state will be trained and given jobs under this program in the next 8 months. The trained and given jobs under this program in the next 8 months. They include Lucknow, Kanpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Moradabad, Agra, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj.
Under the proposed plan three different courses: Telecom Rigger – 5G and Legacy Networks, Technician 5G – Active Network Installation, and Project Engineer – 5G Networks will be conducted with a capital expenditure of Rs 2.8 crore by the state government. The Telecom Rigger-5G and Legacy Networks course will train 360 candidates in 450 hours, costing about Rs 80 lakh. The state government will fund the per-head candidate cost of over Rs 22,000.
Further, the Technician 5G course will be conducted for 360 students. The 570 hours program will involve a total expenditure of over Rs 1 crore. For the Project Engineer course, which will be conducted for 280 candidates the state government will shell out over 90 lakhs over 660 hour programme.
The state government will implement the entire training program in five phases covering training and employment. While the first phase will involve attracting students to the courses this will be followed by pre and post-enrollment counseling of the participants. The third phase will focus on monitoring and evaluation. In the fourth phase, the state will provide placements to the candidates, and in the last and fifth phases, these candidates will get ongoing support, feedback, and mentoring.
