SOCH-beyond the imagination, an NGO has started a vocational training centre for skill development of marginalized people living urban slums of Aligarh i.e. Shehanshabad. SOCH started a literacy centre for children of urban slums at the same locality earlier on October 17, 2015. For more development & welfare of urban slum people SOCH came forward in field of Skill development.
Now NGO is running a Govt Scheme, Community Development Through Polytechnic (CDTP) in collaboration with Women’s Polytechnic, AMU, Aligarh under which vocational training will be given to girls/women above the age of 14 years for about 6 months. Students will be awarded with certificates at the end of the training. These types of training will help these folks in employment generation and will also help for better survival.
The vocational training centre at SOCH literacy centre was inaugurated by Mrs. Shabana Siddiqui ( Social worker) on April 4th,2016. She was accompanied by Mrs. Naushaba Jamal & Samiya Suhail. Mr. Saad Hameed (TPO-General,AMU) marked his presence in inauguration event and said “ SOCH is the organization initiated by Students of Aligarh Muslim University and are representing the AMU at different cities, states and also in different countries by providing the neediest. I would like to be lifetime sympathizer of this organization who cares a lot upliftment of the society through various programs.”
Mrs. Shabana Siddiqui said that it is a remarkable initiative for welfare of slum dwellers. In this era where everyone is discussing about women empowerment, SOCH has taken step which will definitely empowers marginalized women living in urban slum of Aligarh.”
Sartaj Alam who is the centre in charge said “the purpose of starting this scheme is to sensitize & aware people regarding opportunities available in the form of employment & also create awareness about various schemes that are running for marginalized people by the Govt.” Yusra Khan(MSW), Project In-charge said “The main aim of this program is to enhance the quality of life of women through increased knowledge and skills. SOCH realized that merely imparting literacy would not be sufficient .The women need vocational training or skills also to uplift their status. They should be able to stand on their feet & become an earning member of the family.
Shawaiz khan & Mohd Faisal said “it’s good to be a part of this kind of programs and we will do full justice in performing our responsibilities towards centre and its related work.” Other Members of SOCH like Amood Gulzar, Faraz Murtaza, Mohsin Hasan, Furqan Ahmad, Sahiba, Shariq, Abdullah, Dr. Jimmy Azhar, were present there.
At last SOCH team was overwhelmed with the response and curiosity expressed by the folks to learn and embrace new things in their life. Batch of around 50 candidates for vocational training were selected at the end.
