Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) will be starting a skill development programme for people belonging to weaker sections of the society, informed municipal commissioner Abhishek Krishna at a press conference on Monday.
The weaker sections include those belonging to schedule caste (SC), schedule tribes (ST), below poverty level (BPL), women and handicapped people. A private agency will be appointed to counsel, assess skill gap, train and place the beneficiaries. Around 500 beneficiaries in the age group of 18-35 will be trained. These beneficiaries will be able to work anywhere in the state. The NMC will be spending Rs 1 crore on the project.
“We will invite expression of interest from agencies. The agency should have a tie up with private companies. The agency will study the skill demand in the market and will study the gap in our beneficiaries. Then, they will train the beneficiaries accordingly and will also provide placements,” said Krishna.
About the selection criteria, he said once the applications come in, the NMC will take a decision about who to select. “We have put up the proposal in the general body meeting scheduled for Friday. This is happening for the first time in Nashik and it will be beneficial for the weaker sections to become self-sufficient,” said Krishna.
