New Delhi : Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje has said her government will rehabilitate people whose employment might be affected by the new rules on sale and purchase of cattle at animal markets and fairs by enrolling them in state government-run skill development programmes.
Though officials said Rajasthan was not seen as home to many people solely dependent on livestock sale and purchase, particularly of cattle, Raje said her government had enough provisions to rehabilitate people. She said, “The Rajasthan government runs several skill development programmes in which people may be enrolled, should the need arise.”
She said the state government had a zero tolerance policy towards cow vigilantism. She referred to the instance of dairy farmer Pehlu Khan who was beaten to death by a mob in Alwar last month as a mischievous effort to “write up” instances of vigilantism.
“In the instance of Pehlu Khan, we took immediate action and arrested the miscreants. We cannot let people take the law in their hands. They will not be allowed to get away. The police are also investigating the attack on Sikh sevadars in Ajmer. People write up the one or two incidents that happen in Rajasthan, even though instances like these occur across the country, not just in Rajasthan. I do not condone these incidents, but this only takes the focus away from all the development initiatives we have taken,” the CM said.
Emphasizing the welfare initiatives of BJP in Rajasthan, the CM said schemes like the Bhamashah health insurance scheme, Annapoorna Rasoi, the government’s food security programme for the poor, and the Mukyamantri Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan, an initiative to restore traditional step wells and other groundwater recharge sources, were among the schemes that had yielded good results.
Raje said the government’s financial inclusion programme started in 2006 had seen nearly 5.13 crore people using point of sales machines, smart cards or direct banking to avail welfare benefits, while preventive policing and smart city initiatives were improving quality of life. The CM said she planned to make development her poll plank for the assembly elections due in 2018.
