Kohima (Nagaland) : With the objective to impart skills among the youth for employability and also to promote local entrepreneurship, Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU), in collaboration with Zynorique Initiatives Society, launched the skill development programme at Kohima Village Council Hall on November 15.
The program was also aimed at to create opportunities, space and scope for the development of the talents of the village youth. Key emphasis of the program was to provide training, support and guidance for all occupations that of both traditional and modern.
The launching program was graced by CEO of Entrepreneur Associates, Kohima, Neichüte Doulo, who is also the recipient of ‘Social Entrepreneur of the year India 2016,’ as the chief guest.
Director of Zynorique Initiatives Society, Kohima, Richard Belho said the main focus of the program is to generate self-employment among the youth. While lamenting that educated Nagas are unable to start something on its own, the IBIs continues to seize the opportunities even in the remotest part of the state. In this regard, Belho stressed on the need to change one’s mindset, while asserting that the face of Nagaland will change with the way India is changing. He said, ‘we cannot always wait for someone to bring solution to us,’ adding one should learn to adapt with the changing times.
With Kohima in a very disadvantaged position in the present time, Belho said skill development is the only solution that can empower the youth to start something on their own. He, therefore, urged upon the youth to come forward and seize the opportunity to equip themselves to move forward in life.
Meanwhile, he also reminded that only serious people may apply stating undertaking such venture just for the sake of doing will not benefit anyone in anyway. Belho said it aims to not only provide the training, but will do follow-ups and also mentor the youth to enable them to move forward.
The skill development programme will kick start on November 16 with training on bamboo eco-friendly souvenirs.
KVSU skill development board members included Richard Belho, Dr. Menuosietuo Tseikha, Er. Keviletuo Yiese, Medozhatuo Rutsa, Neivotuo Keyho, Vitsu Yhome, Noumvüzolie Sachü and Zedikuolie Kire.
The programme, which will continue till March 2017 in Kohima, included electronics, hospitality, plumbing, electrical and house wiring, sketching and wood carving, tourism guide, packaging and labeling, jam and pickle packing and bamboo products, organic farming and food production, breakfast/tiffin making, haircutting, piggery and poultry etc.
