Thiruvananthapuram : A free job training centre said to be the biggest in the state has come up at Pothencode, located 18 km from East Fort. Six industry-relevant skill courses like assistant electrician, CCTV installation technician, front office associate, documentation assistant, tailor, field technician, computing and peripherals will be taught at the centre.
The courses are open for youth between 18 to 35 years. It is a free course as the Government of India will bear the expenses of these courses under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). “Fee for these courses come between Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 in other private facilities. On successful completion, they will be placed in reputed organizations said e-Tech managing director Noushad A R.
Under the scheme girl students and physically challenged will get Rs 1,000 every month as stipend. The courses are of 4 months duration. Exams will be conducted by National Skills Development Corporation and a job card will be issued on clearing the exam.
e-Tech Education and Skill Development has developed 15,500 square feet centre. Wayline Management Consultants is the training partner. The scheme aims to provide skill training to around 3,000 youth in each district this year. The centre can accommodate 720 students in a batch. The centre was inaugurated by A Sampath MP on Saturday.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana has over 230 skills development courses. The flagship project comes under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
