Chandigarh : In the first initiative of its kind in the tricity of Chandigarh Mohali and Panchkula, the Sri Sukhmani Group of Institutions, Dera Bassi has started short-term courses under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) at its two campuses ie Sri sukhmani Institute of Engineering & Technology and Sri Sukhmani Polytechnic Dera Bassi.
SSGI chairman Avtar Singh said that the institute got approval from AICTE and respective state skill councils to run these short-term skill development courses.
He said that these short-term courses are the need of present scenario. He said that the national policy for skill development and entrepreneurship, 2015 has projected a shortage of 109 million skilled persons by 2022 and towards this direction Pradhan Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is a step and he appreciated the efforts of faculty and staff to successfully implement this scheme at SSGI campus.
Chief administrator Rashpal Singh said that total five skill development courses – Construction Electrician, Masson Concrete, Auto Component Assembly Fitter, Fitter Mechanical Assembly and Field Technician: Air Conditioner – have been approved by AICTE and admissions to these courses are being started for the session 2016. “These courses are of maximum 250 hours duration and timings are also flexible. Students can attend these courses as per their convenience after college working hours and on holidays,” he said.
For theses courses, the institute has signed MoUs with nearby industries so that the candidates can have the knowledge of new technologies in the relevant fields. He also added that skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development for any country, added Rashpal.
