It has been widely noted that by increasing women participation in the workforce a further boost can be given to the economy. In a joint paper, IMF Chief Christine Lagarde and Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg, pointed out that by raising women’s participation in the workforce to that of men, will boost India’s GDP by 27%.
Under the SANKALP programme, it was proposed under the Program for Results (PforR) component that disbursement will be conditional on achievement of Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs), of which DLI 6 refers to ‘Increase in percentage of women participating in SD programs’. In order to attain this, target for Year 4 relates to conducting a “tracer study to gauge the employment outcomes of skill development programs on women [who have] completed [the training]”.
Therefore, to understand the employment opportunities present for women after completion of short-term skill training programs and the challenges faced by them, MSDE under the SANKALP programme, aims to implement a tracer study to look at the employment outcomes of women candidates that have passed-out from short term skill training programs. In order to draw meaningful inferences, the tracer study would also include male candidates who passed out from short-term skill training programs at the same time and analyse their trajectory.
